Le Grand Massif is 60kms southeast of Geneva on the way to Chamonix and is only directly accessible by road. Getting here is straightforward, with a nearby international airport and train station. The most common option is to fly to Geneva and transfer by Skibus. International rail travel and self-drive are also easy options.
Geneva-Cointrin Airport is the nearest major airport and is only just over an hour by hire car. There is a Skibus available for transfers, and trains go from the airport, via the city, to Cluses (near Le Grand Massif), from where shuttles go to the resort. Airports at Annecy and Chambery are also near, but Lyon-Satolas is the next viable alternative.
Self-drive from the UK will invariably have a ferry crossing to Calais, from where the fastest route to Le Grand Massif goes past the cities of Reims, Dijon and Annemasse (near Geneva). From Annemasse, the A-40 services the region (870kms; eight to nine hours). This journey uses autoroutes and will cost about €100 in tolls (one-way). Paris is exactly 600kms away on the A-6 and A-40.
By train, there is a regular Eurostar service from London to Paris, from where there is a TGV high-speed train direct to Annecy. From Annecy, a regional train goes to Cluses, the train station nearest Le Grand Massif. On weekends a TGV goes directly to Cluses from Paris. Taxis and shuttles go from Cluses to the villages.
