Les Menuires is 200kms east of Lyon and 160kms south of Geneva in the Trois Vallees ski area of the Savoie region, and is only directly accessible by road. There is a major train station nearby, making international rail travel attractive, and self-drive is also feasible. Flying to Chambery or Geneva and transferring by train and/or bus is the best option.
Chambery Airport is the closest but offers less flight options than Geneva-Cointrin. Buses go direct to Les Menuires from Chambery Airport. From Geneva-Cointrin Airport, trains go to Moutiers (near Les Menuires) via Geneva. Alternatively, car hire from either airport offers the fastest transfer option. Lyon-Satolas Airport is another alternative.
Self-drive is possible, but check ahead on weather conditions as the high altitude roads approaching Les Menuires can become congested. The quickest route from Calais goes via Reims, Dijon, Lyon and Chambery. From Chambery, carry on along the A-43 and N-90 on a heading for Moutiers (965kms; 9 to 10 hours). The 145-kilometre journey from Geneva-Cointrin Airport goes via Annecy and Moutiers.
In the winter, Eurostar offers a special London-Moutiers service via the Channel Tunnel and, alternatively, there are several Eurostar connections with Paris every day. High-speed TGV trains then go to Moutiers from gare de Lyon. Les Menuires is only 30 minutes from Moutiers by taxi; a little longer by bus.
Eurolines buses also run from major European cities to Chambery, from where local buses go to Moutiers and Les Menuires.
