Getting to Leukerbad, Switzerland for your Skiing and Snowboarding Holiday

Leukerbad ski resort is located in the north of the region of Valais (southwest Switzerland) and is only accessible by road. Most travellers fly into Geneva and take a train/bus combination to the resort, via Leuk. There is a rail connection to nearby Leuk from London, and a good network of motorways allows for easy self-driving.

Geneva-Cointrin Airport is the nearest international airport to Leukerbad. The fast train from Geneva Airport will take you to Leuk in just three hours, and from there you take the bus to Leukerbad. Hiring a car and driving yourself will save you 1 hour, 30 minutes transfer time. Also easily accessible by train and bus is Zürich International Airport (four to five hours). Sion Airport is another alternative and is one hour away.

The quickest self-drive route from Calais is via Reims, Dijon, Lausanne and Martigny. From Martigny, carry on along the A-9 autobahn to Susten, where you need to head north for Leukerbad (900kms; nine hours). From Geneva-Cointrin Airport, head east along and around the Lake Geneva (A-1/A-9) autobahn, and on to Susten, as above.

Roughly 10 trains a day connect with Leuk from London, involving between three and five changes and taking between 10 and 17 hours. The 08:12 Eurostar departure from Waterloo station to Paris (Nord) is the most convenient, with four changes including a bus from Leuk.

A high-speed TGV goes from Paris's gare de Lyon to Lausanne, from where an Interregional train goes to Sierre. A fast train then goes to Leuk; here you need to change to a bus which arrives in Leukerbad ski resort at 19:13. The majority of the SBB fast trains from Bern-Brig (Lötschberg) and Lausanne stop at Leuk, from where a direct LLB bus goes to Leukerbad every hour. In addition, every Saturday and Sunday there are direct LLB buses from Goppenstein am Lötschberg to Leukerbad.
