Getting to Livigno, Italy for your Skiing and Snowboarding Holiday

Livigno is fairly remote in relation to major cities, and both Milan and Zürich are over 200kms away by road. Livigno is only serviced by road but travelling by train from London is feasible and only involves two changes and a bus ride. Self-drive is also popular, while the easiest option is to fly to Milan or Zürich and transfer by train/bus, bus, or hire car.

Milan-Linate Airport and Zürich International Airport are about equidistant from Livigno, at just over 200kms. Both airports have the same transport options, involving a train and bus combination, or bus all the way. There is a more direct road route from Zürich, making it a more convenient choice when hiring a car. Public transport will take about four hours; roughly an hour less by car.

The quickest self-drive route from Calais utilises tolled motorways and goes via Reims, Metz, Strasbourg, Basel, Zürich and Landquart. From Landquart, carry on southeast along route 28, cross the border into Italy and on to Livigno (1,050kms; 10 to 11 hours).

The journey from Milan-Linate Airport uses several roads and goes via Vimercate, Lecco, Sondrio and Tirano, from where route 29 continues onto Livigno. From Zürich International Airport, follow the A-3 and route 28.

Train connections from London are straightforward and involve a Eurostar from Waterloo station to Paris, from where connections go to Milan. Take a regional train from Milan to Tirano, from where local buses go direct to Livigno ski resort (about 15 hours). There is also an overnight option from Paris to Milan.
