Mad River Glen ski resort is located 65kms southeast of Burlington in central Vermont, and the easiest way to get here is to fly to Burlington International Airport and transfer by shuttle to the resort. Travelling by car is straightforward due to the proximity of the interstate highways and major centres; while rail travel to nearby Waterbury is also feasible.
Burlington International Airport is the nearest major airport and receives flights from within the US and from the UK. Shuttle buses run to and from Mad River, or you could take a taxi. There are two routes from the airport by road: the easy route goes via I-89 to Waterbury and highway 100 from there; alternatively, take highway 2 (Williston road) from the airport and then continue on Johnnie Brook, Huntington, Main and Gore roads, before turning on to the McCullough Highway.
By road, take interstates 95, 91 and 89 to junction 9 at Middlesex and exit on to highway 2, which leads on to highway 100 to Waitsfield; follow the signs from there (550kms; six hours). From Boston, Mad River Glen is accessible along interstates 93 and 89 to Middlesex, as above (330kms; four hours). From Montréal, follow autoroutes 10, 35 and 133 to the border leading on to I-89 to Waterbury, from where highway 100 goes to Waitsfield.
By train, Amtrak offers train/ski/lodging packages, with daily service from New York, Philadelphia and Washington, DC. The New York service leaves from Penn station at 10:30 and arrives in Waterbury at 19:00. Taxis and buses run to Waitsfield, from where the Mad Bus provides free travel to the resort.
Greyhound Lines buses leave from New York for Waterbury every morning at 05:45, arriving at 14:25. From Montréal, a daily bus leaves at 05:30 and arrives in Waterbury at 15:00. Buses and taxis run to Waitsfield from there.
