Mammoth Mountain is located in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, 450kms east of San Francisco and 270kms south of Reno, and is best reached by flying to Reno or San Francisco and taking public transportation or hiring a car. Driving from Los Angeles is also an option.
The nearest major airport is Reno-Tahoe International Airport, which is served by major carriers. Shuttle services run to Mammoth from the airport; the Crest Bus also runs on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Alternatively, Mammoth Lakes Airport, to the southeast of Mammoth, receives limited charter services from some Californian destinations.
By car, Mammoth is served by the north-south highway 395 that runs from the east of Los Angeles and passes near Mammoth Lakes before heading on up through Reno. Driving time from LA is around six hours, while the journey is four hours from Reno. From San Francisco, Mammoth is 450kms and six hours away along I-580 and highways 120, 108 and 395.
