Mariborsko Pohorje ski resort is located in the northeast of Slovenia, near Maribor and 120kms northeast of Ljubljana. The quickest transport option is to fly to Graz and hire a car, or take a train/bus combination via Maribor. International rail travel is straightforward, as is self-drive, although distances are great from the UK.
The nearest international airport is Graz-Thalerhof Airport and there is a train station nearby, with departures to and from Maribor. From here, take a bus or taxi to Mariborsko Pohorje. Ljubljana is the alternative, with transfer times slightly longer than from Graz. Car hire from either affords quicker transfer times.
By car, Maribor has road links with Austria, Italy, Hungary and Croatia. Mariborsko Pohorje is fairly remote, so if you’re driving from the UK, be prepared for a long journey. From Calais, the quickest route goes via Brussels, Cologne, Frankfurt, Nuremberg, Wels and Graz. From Graz, continue on the A-9 autobahn south to Maribor and follow the signs from here (1,380kms; 12 to 13 hours).
If you’re traveling by train from the UK, take the Eurostar service to Paris (Nord) from London (Waterloo station). There is a direct overnight express service from Paris (gare de l’Est) to Munich, from where Eurocity trains go to Graz the next morning. Trains from Graz go regularly to Maribor and take about 1 hour, 30 minutes.
The cheapest travel option is to take a Eurolines bus to Graz and a service from Graz central station to Maribor. Journeys are often uncomfortable, however, due to the distances involved.
