Getting to Megeve, France for your Skiing and Snowboarding Holiday

Megeve is 70kms southeast of Geneva in the Savoie region of France and is only directly accessible by road, but with a good choice of transfer options. The most practical travel option is to fly to Geneva and take the Skibus, while international rail travel and self-drive are also popular choices.

Geneva-Cointrin Airport is the closest and receives flights from all over the world. There is a rail terminal at the airport with regular transfers to Sallanches (near Megeve), from where buses and taxis go to the resort. The Skibus from the airport is more convenient, and car hire is even easier. Megeve is an hour from the airport by car along the A-40 and N-212.

Geneva is a transport hub for the region and is well connected to the European motorway network, making driving from the UK fairly straightforward. From Calais, the quickest route goes via Reims, Dijon and Annemasse (near Geneva). From Annemasse, carry on along the A-40 southeast, exiting on to the N-205/212 for Megeve (880kms; eight to nine hours).

Train travel is a convenient way to reach Megeve, and there is a connection from the UK, via Waterloo station, from where regular Eurostar trains go to Paris. If you are travelling on a weekend from Paris, high-speed TGVs go to Sallanches, from where it’s only a short bus ride to Megeve. In the week, high-speed trains terminate at nearby Annecy, from where local services go to Sallanches.

If you’re on a budget, Eurolines buses operate Europe-wide and go to Geneva, from where local buses go to Megeve.
