Montafon Valley is located in the southern part of Vorarlberg and is accessible via a number of options, usually involving plane, train and/or bus. It is possible and popular to drive all the way to Montafon, and travelling by train is also a good option. The most convenient way is to fly to Innsbruck Airport and take the Skibus to the valley.
The nearest and cheapest international airport is Zürich, which receives budget carriers from European cities and worldwide traffic. From here, regular trains run to Bludenz with approximately two trains per hour running on to Schruns (largest resort and last stop). Buses and taxis also serve Schruns from Bludenz. If you can get a good deal on a flight to Innsbruck, the dedicated Skibus only takes two hours to reach Schruns.
By car, Schruns is 620kms west of Vienna and 160kms southeast of Zürich. From Zürich International Airport, bypass the city and drive east along autobahn A-1, exiting on to the A-13/14 until you reach Bludenz. At Bludenz, follow the Montafon Valley signs along the B-188 and head up the valley until you reach Schruns and the other resorts.
For those who prefer to take the train, you can go all the way from London to Schruns with three changes. For the overnight option, Eurostar trains leave London Waterloo daily at 17:09, for Paris, Nord; an overnighter completes the Zürich leg, arriving at 06:20 next day. A Eurostar train also leaves London at 10:29 for Paris, Nord. A high-speed TGV then leaves from Paris' gare de Lyon for Zürich. From Zürich, several trains go to Bludenz with another change for Schruns.
