Mt Hood Meadows ski resort is located 110kms to the southeast of Portland and 50kms south of Hood River. Only accessible by road, the easiest way to get here is to fly to Portland and transfer to the resort by shuttle. Self-driving, and rail travel as far as Hood River are also feasible.
The nearest major airport is Portland International, receiving flights from across the US, Canada and world cities. Private shuttle companies run shuttle buses to and from Mount Hood Meadows and to Hood River, or you can take the train to Hood River and catch a shuttle to the resort from there. By car, follow I-84 (east) and exit on to highway 26 at junction 16. Turn left on to route 35 and follow the signs.
Alternatively, take I-84 east from Portland to Hood River, from where highway 35 goes south for 50kms to Mount Hood Meadows. Portland is served by the north-south I-5 (Vancouver to San Diego) and I-84 (Salt Lake City to Portland). Snow chains must be used on highways 26 and 35, and parking at the resort is $4 per day.
By rail, Portland is served by San Francisco (in the south) and Seattle (in the north), and there are regular departures to Hood River from Portland. Greyhound Lines coaches also run to Portland from various US cities on the western seaboard and offer a cheaper but less comfortable form of travel.
