Pila ski resort is 130kms northwest of Turin and just south of Aosta, in the northwestern corner of Italy, and is only directly accessible by road. Flying to Turin or Milan and taking public transport is the most common way of getting to Pila, while international rail travel and self-drive are also popular travel options.
The nearest international airport is Turin-Casselle Airport, at 130kms and a 1 hour, 30 minute transfer by hire car, via the A-5 autopista. Buses also go to Pila from Turin-Casselle and trains go to Aosta, via Turin. Milan-Malpensa Airport is a little farther away from Pila than Turin-Casselle, but receives a greater choice of flight options. Transfer options are the same as for Casselle Airport.
Driving to Pila is fairly straightforward owing to the accessibility of the European motorway network. If coming from the UK, the quickest route from Calais goes via Reims, Dijon, Geneva and Aosta (via the Mont Blanc Tunnel). From Aosta, follow the signs south to Gressan-Pila (950kms; 9 to 10 hours). Pila is also accessible via the Great St Bernard Tunnel from Switzerland and the Little St Bernard Pass from France.
Travelling by train is a good option, with overnight connections from Paris to Milan and Turin, from where regional services connect with Aosta. Buses and taxis or the cable car will take you to Pila from Aosta. If you’re coming from the UK, there is a regular Eurostar service from London’s Waterloo station to Paris’ gare du Nord, taking just under four hours.
