Pontresina ski resort is located in the southwest of Switzerland in the region of Graubünden and there are several options for getting here, although not all are convenient. Flying to Zürich and taking the train is the easiest way to get to Pontresina, while international rail travel and self-driving are also popular.
The closest major airport with the most flight and transfer options is Zürich International Airport, which receives both scheduled and charter services from all major cities. Trains leave every hour and take up to four hours to reach Pontresina, with three or four changes. Hiring a car from the airport will take about 90 minutes off the transfer time.
The quickest self-drive route from Calais is Reims, Metz, Strasbourg, Basel, Zürich and Chur. From Chur, head south along the A-13, exiting east on to route 417/3 for Pontresina (1,060kms; 10 hours); sole drivers should allow two days travel time. From Zürich International Airport, take the A-3/A-1 autobahn for Chur, and then follow the above directions (220kms; 2 hours, 30 minutes).
Train connections from London can be inconvenient, involving up to six changes and taking up to 15 hours. The 17:42 Eurostar departure for Paris (Nord) from Waterloo station only has two changes, however. From Paris (Est) a fast overnight train goes to Landquart, from where there is another fast train to Pontresina, arriving at 10:15 the next morning; the total travel time is 15 hours, 33 minutes.
