Red Lodge Mountain is located 95kms southwest of Billings and 100kms north of Cody (Wyoming), and is accessible by road and rail. The easiest way here is to fly to Billings and transfer by hire car. Self-drive is straightforward owing to the network of interstate highways; while rail travel is also possible.
Billings' Logan International Airport, just on the outskirts of the city, is the state's busiest and is serviced by the likes of Delta, Northwest and United Airlines. Taxis are available for transfer to Red Lodge Mountain; alternatively, by hire car, take I-90 (west) and exit at 434 on to the 212 for Red Lodge.
If you're self-driving, I-90 runs all the way from Seattle in the west to Boston, on the east coast, right through Billings. I-94 from Milwaukee (east) joins up with I-90 to the east of Billings. If you’re driving from Seattle, Billings is over a day’s drive (1,325kms) away.
Greyhound Lines buses run to Billings from across the country; a day and night bus from Seattle to Billings is a gruelling 18-hour journey. There is also a daily departure from Salt Lake City at 20:00, arriving at Billings the following afternoon at 13:00.
