Getting to Reit im Winkl / Steinplatte / Winklmoos-Alm, Germany for your Skiing and Snowboarding Holiday

Located in southeast Bavaria, west of Salzburg, Reit im Winkl/Steinplatte/ Winklmoos-Alm ski resort can only be accessed by road, but there are bus connections with the nearest train station. Many like to drive here or take the train from the UK, but the most practical way is to fly to Münich or Salzburg and hire a car.

The nearest airport is Salzburg International, but there are more options at Münich’s FJ Strauss Airport. From FJ Strauss Airport there is a train/train/bus combination to Reit im Winkl (via the city of Münich and Prien am Chiemsee, respectively). Buses also leave FJ Strauss Airport every hour for Prien am Chiemsee, where there is a change to the Reit im Winkl-bound bus.

There are numerous train/bus connections from Salzburg (via Prien am Chiemsee) to Reit im Winkl (two hours). Car hire from either airport is much more convenient.
Self-drive from Calais involves a two day and 1,190 kilometre journey along autoroutes and autobahns via the cities of Reims, Metz, Stuttgart and Münich.

From FJ Strauss Airport, head for Münich along the A-9 and then take the Münich bypass towards the A-8 (Münich-Salzburg) autobahn. From the A-8, head south along the A-93 (south of Rosenheim), and then turn right onto the B-172 and follow the signs for Reit im Winkl.

By train, a Eurostar leaves Waterloo station at 15:11 daily for Paris’s gare du Nord (18:53). Take a taxi or walk to gare de l’Est, from where the Münich-bound train leaves at 19:44. Trains go via Strasbourg, Offenburg and Mannheim before pulling into Münich at 07:18. Change at Münich for a Prien am Chiemsee-bound train, then take a bus to Reit im Winkl (total time taken: 18 hours, 17 minutes). There is also a Eurostar from London with a change at Paris to an overnighter to Münich.
