Samnaun ski resort is 200kms east of Zürich, near the Austrian border, and is only accessible by road, which can make rail transfer from the airports cumbersome. The most convenient way to get to Samnaun is to fly to Innsbruck and hire a car at the airport. Other options are self-drive and international rail travel, with bus connection.
The closest airport is Innsbruck Airport (120kms); however, with only three or four rail/bus connections a day, taking four hours, public transport is not very convenient. Transfer by hire car will only take around 1 hour, 30 minutes. Zurich International Airport receives more flights and trains depart every two hours, although transfer times are five hours.
The quickest road route from Calais is the Reims-Metz-Strasbourg-Basel-Zürich-St Gallen-Feldkirch-Landeck route. From Landeck, drive south on the B-315 and follow the signs for Samnaun (1,100kms; 10 to 11 hours). Samnaun is 120kms away from Innsbruck Airport via the A-12 autobahn and route B-315. From Zürich International Airport, follow the A-1 for Innsbruck, exiting at Landeck for the B-315.
The train route from London is inconvenient, with many changes, including two buses, and takes 17 hours or more. There are about five departures in the day, and at night; the most convenient connection is the 17:42 Eurostar from Waterloo, bound for Paris (Nord). A high-speed overnighter then goes from Paris (Est) to Landquart, from where there is another train to Scuol. From Scuol, there is a bus to Martina, and then another bus to Samnaun.
