Samoens is 60kms southeast of Geneva and is only directly accessible by road; however, public transportation options are convenient and efficient, allowing for fast transfer times. A flight to Geneva and transfer by Skibus is the most practical travel option, while trains from Paris go directly to Cluses, and self-drive is also straightforward.
The nearest airport is Geneva-Cointrin Airport which has numerous worldwide flight options and is only 60kms away from Samoens by road (A-40/D-4). Transfer is usually by Skibus, and trains also go from the airport to Cluses, from where buses and taxis go to the resort. Lyon-Satolas Airport is the alternative, with a three-hour transfer time.
Geneva is a transport hub for the region and a number of motorways converge on the city. If travelling from the UK, a ferry crossing or Channel Tunnel trip will take you to Calais, from where the quickest route to Samoens goes via Reims, Dijon and Annemasse (near Geneva). From Annemasse, continue along the A40 to Cluses at exit 18, from where the D-304 and D-4 go to Samoens (870kms; eight to nine hours).
If travelling by train, a high-speed TGV goes directly to Cluses from Paris on weekends. In the week, trains from Paris only go as far as Annecy, from where coaches go to Cluses, and buses and taxis go to Samoens. Eurostar feeds Paris from a number of other European cities, including London.
A direct overnight Eurostar service also goes to Bourg St Maurice (south of Samoens) from London, in the winter. By road from here, head due north along a series of minor roads and the A-40 to Cluses, from where the D-902 and D-4 go to Samoens.
