Getting to Schladming / Dachstein, Austria for your Skiing and Snowboarding Holiday

Located in the northwest corner of Styria, Schladming ski resort has a rail terminal and getting here from London by train is possible, via several connections. Travellers will usually fly into Salzburg or Munich (the former the closest, the latter more popular) and transfer to the resort by hire car or train. Driving is also a popular option, with a major autobahn servicing Salzburg.

The nearest international airport is Salzburg, just west of the city, with regular shuttle and bus transfers to Salzburg train station. Trains from here take 1 hour, 30 minutes to reach Schladming. Munich's FJ Strauss Airport receives far more carriers and travellers than Salzburg and has a direct rail connection with its city. Trains from here take about three to four hours.

By car, Schladming ski resort is 1,200kms from Calais and you should allow two days (minimum) to get here. From Salzburg, head south on the A-10 autobahn, exiting at junction 63 on to route E-651/B-99 for the resort (90kms). From Munich Airport, take autobahns A-9, A-99 (bypass), A-8 and A-10 from Salzburg, and then exit on to the B-99, as above (260kms).

The train ride from London involves three changes via Paris, Munich and Salzburg. A daily Eurostar train leaves London's Waterloo Station at 17:09, arriving in Paris at 20:59 (local time). An overnighter then leaves Paris' gare de l'Est at 22:56 and arrives in Munich at 08:59 the next morning. Regular Eurocity trains go from here to Salzburg (90 minutes), from where trains go to Schladming (90minutes).
