Lying southwest of Salzburg and east of Innsbruck, St Johann in Tyrol ski resort can be reached by a number of methods. Flying to Munich or Salzburg, together with rail transfer to the resort, is the most attractive option. Many travellers prefer to drive all the way; while train travel from London, via three changes, is also a popular option.
The nearest international airport is Salzburg (65kms) but Munich's FJ Strauss Airport will be the gateway airport for many. Trains run every hour to St Johann from Salzburg station (2 hours, 45 minutes), and buses run several times a day (1 hour, 45 minutes). Regular shuttles and buses run to Salzburg city from the airport. Trains from Munich Airport take about three hours.
By car, allow two days to get to St Johann from Calais (1,100kms). The route takes in major cities along major tolled motorways, including the A-26 and A-4 (France), and the A-8 (Germany). From Salzburg International Airport, drive west and southwest along the A-1, B-20, ST-2101, B-305 and B-312 (65kms/one hour). St Johann is 365kms and nearly four hours from Vienna.
Eurostar trains from London go via Paris with overnight options to Munich or Zürich, or a high-speed TGV on the Paris-Zürich leg. Trains leave London's Waterloo Station daily at 10:29 and 17:09 for Paris' gare du Nord. Overnight trains to Münich go via Paris' gare de l'Est, while day and night trains to Zürich leave from gare de Lyon.
Journey time from Munich to St Johann is 2 hours, 30 minutes; while it is about five hours from Zürich, via Innsbruck. Buses also pull into St Johann from Salzburg several times a day, stopping first at Kitzbühel (1 hour, 45 minutes).
