Sugarbush ski resort lies about 70kms southeast of Burlington and Lake Chamberlain, and is directly accessible by road only; however, travel by rail to nearby Waterbury is quite feasible. The quickest way here is to fly to Burlington International Airport and transfer by shuttle bus or hire car.
Burlington International Airport is only a 45-minute drive away, and is the nearest major airport to Sugarbush, receiving flights from across the US, Canada and the UK. Several hotels offer shuttle services from the airport or, if you are driving, take route 2 and I-89 (east) to Waterbury, from where route 100 goes to Waitsfield and the Sugarbush Access road (on the way to Warren), which leads west to the resort.
By road from New York, interstates 91 and 89 go to Middlesex (north), from where routes 2 and 100 go to Waitsfield to the south (540kms; six hours). The 320-kilometre journey from Boston goes along interstates 93 and 89 to exit 9 (Middlesex), and then continues along routes 2 and 100, as above.
By train, Amtrak offers direct service from Washington, DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia and New York City, and a taxi and group transfer service is available for the trip from Waterbury to Waitsfield or Warren. The Mad Bus provides free, roundtrip travel between designated stops in Warren and Waitsfield, including Sugarbush. Greyhound buses run daily from New York and Montréal, arriving in Waterbury at 14:25 and 15:00 respectively.
