Getting to Timberline Lodge, USA for your Skiing and Snowboarding Holiday

Timberline Lodge ski resort is located 100kms southeast of Portland and 70kms south of Hood River, and is only directly accessible by car. The quickest and most convenient way here is to fly to Portland and take a shuttle bus from the airport; while self-drive is fairly arduous due to the remoteness and road conditions.

Portland International Airport is the point of entry by air and can be accessed from most US and Canadian airports and a number of world cities. A shuttle bus transfer is the best travel option from the airport, and there are several companies to choose from. If you hire a car, the law stipulates that you have to fit snow chains to the tyres while driving the Mount Hood roads.

By road from the airport, take I-84 (east) and exit at junction 16 (south) on highway 26. Follow highway 26 all the way to Government Camp (south of Mt Hood) and exit on to the Timberline Highway, following the signs to the resort. Interstate 5 runs north to Portland from Los Angeles and south from Seattle. Interstate 84 approaches Portland from Salt Lake City in the east.

Portland lies on the Los Angeles-Seattle Amtrak rail line and there are frequent departures to Portland in either direction; however, journeys are long and sleepers are expensive. Greyhound Lines coaches also run to Portland from various US cities on the western seaboard and locations from the east.
