Val D’Isere ski resort is 135kms east of Chambery and 165kms southeast of Geneva and is directly accessible by road only. Flying to Geneva and taking a Skibus or hiring a car is your quickest option for getting here; while self-drive, and a combination of rail and bus travel are also popular.
The nearest international airport with the greatest convenience is Geneva-Cointrin Airport. Scheduled and charter flights arrive from all over the UK, Europe and from major world cities. Buses leave the airport throughout the day for transfer to Val D’Isere.
By hire car, take the A-40 southeast and drive though the Mont Blanc Tunnel to Pre-Saint-Didier, and then back into France to meet the N-90 and D-902 for the resort (170kms; three hours).
Val D’Isere is fairly remote but straightforward enough to get to if you’re self-driving. The quickest route from Calais utilises major tolled autoroutes and goes via Reims, Dijon, Geneva and Pre-Saint-Didier (Italy). From there, follow the SS-26 back into France to meet up with the N-90, as above (975kms; 10 to 11 hours).
There is a direct overnight Eurostar service from London’s Waterloo station to Bourg-Saint-Maurice on weekends throughout the winter season; direct day service on Saturdays. In the week, Eurostar trains from London go to Paris with a change to the Bourg-bound high-speed TGV train. Once you are in Bourg-Saint-Maurice, taxis and buses are available for transfer to Val D’Isere.
