Getting to Valloire, France for your Skiing and Snowboarding Holiday

Located on the border of the northern and southern Alps, not far from the Italian border, Valloire ski resort is only directly accessible by road. A combination of flying to Lyon and taking the Skibus is the most practical option for getting here. Those who prefer self-drive can reach Valloire via major autoroutes, while rail travel is straightforward.

Chambery Airport is the closest, but it services mainly domestic destinations. Lyon Satolas and Geneva-Cointrin are the usual entry points, with both receiving ample flights. Trains go directly from Satolas Airport to Chambery, from where there is a regular service to Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne (near Valloire). Take a bus or taxi from there to Valloire ski resort. Buses are also available from Satolas Airport. Trains and buses also go from Geneva-Cointrin Airport.

If you’re travelling by car from the UK, the best route from Calais goes via Reims, Dijon, Lyon and Chambery. From Chambery, take the A-43 to Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne, from where the D-902 goes to Valloire (960kms; nine hours). This route takes in major tolled autoroutes (motorways) and is the fastest driving option.

By train, there are direct high-speed TGVs from Paris (gare de Lyon) to Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne (seven hours), from where buses and taxis carry on to Valloire. Eurostar trains from London (Waterloo) go to Paris (Nord) throughout the day. There is also another service from Paris to Chambery.
