Getting to Valmorel, France for your Skiing and Snowboarding Holiday

Valmorel ski resort is only 85kms from Chambery and 135kms south of Geneva, and is only directly accessible by road. Options for getting here include flying, rail travel to the nearby main station of Moutiers, and self-drive. Flying to Geneva or Lyon is the most practical option, coupled with a train/bus transfer, via Moutiers.

Chambery Airport is the nearest but only receives limited air traffic, making Geneva-Cointrin or Lyon-Satolas airports preferable. Both have rail terminals with regular departures to Moutiers (via Chambery), from where buses and taxis go to Valmorel. By hire car, Valmorel is 170kms and two hours from Satolas Airport, and 125kms and two hours from Cointrin Airport.

Valmorel is 230kms northwest of Turin and 650kms southeast of Paris. If coming from the UK by car, you’ll need to take the ferry or Channel Tunnel to Calais, from where the quickest route uses motorways and takes in Reims, Dijon, Lyon and Chambery. From Chambery, continue on the A-43 and A-430 to merge with the N-90, and then exit on to the D-95 just before Aigueblanche, for Valmorel (950kms; 10 hours).

By train, there are direct services to nearby Moutiers from Paris, Lille, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Germany and Belgium. If you’re coming from the UK, there is a regular Eurostar service from Waterloo station in London that goes directly to Moutiers on weekends only.
