Voss is located in the southwest of Norway, 100kms to the east of Bergen and is directly accessible by road and rail. The quickest and easiest transport option is to fly to Bergen and take the train. International rail travel is fairly popular, while self-drive can be time consuming.
The nearest airport is Bergen’s Flesland Airport, which receives direct flights from the UK. Six buses per day run from Bergen to Voss, taking approximately 1 hour, 45 minutes. Trains also run to Voss from either Bergen or Oslo on one of the world’s most beautiful rail routes.
There are two options if driving from the UK, the most common and quickest being the car ferry route from Newcastle to Bergen. From Bergen, take European highway E-16 to Voss (100kms; 1 hour, 30 minutes). The other option is the Dover to Calais ferry crossing and a long drive via Antwerp, Essen, Hamburg and Alborg, and then the ferry crossing to Larvik, and on to Voss.
Rail transport is a more efficient travel method and straightforward if coming from London. Eurostar trains run daily from Waterloo station to Brussels, from where you can take a sleeper train to Copenhagen. There is a regular service from Copenhagen to Oslo, from where the Bergen railway links the town of Voss with the capital.
