Zermatt is situated in the southwest of Switzerland around 235kms from both Geneva and Zürich. Flying to one of the international airports at either of these cities will allow a train transfer to the resort, making this the easiest option. However, you can catch a Eurostar to Paris from the UK, travel by overnight train to Basel and connect twice by train to the resort of Zermatt. A pre-booked package deal will often arrange all travel and transport.
Zürich and Geneva international airports are roughly 235kms from Zermatt. Fly to either and hire a vehicle or get a convenient train service direct to the resort. The train from Geneva is quickest, taking just four hours, while the journey from Zürich will take five.
By car, Zermatt is 924kms from Calais, with a driving time of 9 hours, 30 minutes, and toll road costs of €40. The journey will take you through France and into Switzerland towards the southwest of the country. If you fly to one of the airports and hire a vehicle, travel to the resort via Visp and Tasch from Geneva, or alternatively via Luzern, Brunigen and Brig to from Zürich.
By train, you can catch the Eurostar service, taking four hours from London Waterloo or Ashford in Kent to Paris. From Paris, board the overnight train to Basel, and then catch the connecting train to Brig. From Brig, catch yet another train travelling to Zermatt, making the journey from Paris a 12-hour trip in total. Trains are available from the two main international airports at Geneva and Zürich straight to the resort.
