Stowe Mountain ski resort is located 75kms east of Burlington in the north of Vermont and is fairly straightforward to get to by road and rail (Waterbury). The best travel option, however, is to fly to Burlington International Airport and transfer by taxi or shuttle bus.
The nearest major airport is Burlington International (west), receiving direct flights from the UK and from across the US. JetBlue often offers rates under $50 to fly from New York’s JFK Airport to Burlington. Taxis and shuttle buses are available for transfer to Stowe Mountain or Stowe town; most hotels have a shuttle service.
If you’re travelling by car from the airport, take I-89 east to Waterbury and then route 100 north to Stowe village and route 108 west (after the village) to Stowe Mountain ski resort (75kms; one hour). For self-drivers coming from north, south, east or west, major interstates or highways run almost to Stowe's doorstep. New York is 555kms away along interstates 91 and 89.
By rail, Amtrak has many services from all over New England to Waterbury, the closest station to Stowe. The romantic Amtrak Vermonter has private berths available and arrives in Waterbury from New York at 19:00. Waterbury station is linked to Stowe village and Stowe Mountain resort by the Stowe Trolley, which also runs between the village and the resort for $1.
By bus, the 05:45 daily Greyhound departure from New York arrives in Waterbury at 14:25, and Greyhound buses from other locations also arrive in Waterbury.
