Alpe di Siusi - Sciliar ski resort is a ski and snowboard paradise situated in the breathtaking western Dolomites, south Tyrol region. The 70kms of slopes are mainly aimed at those with a beginner to intermediate skill level, while advanced skiers and snowboarders have 10kms of terrain.
The resort villages are both picturesque and functional and include Castelrotto, Siusi and Fie allo Sciliar. They have a typical Tyrolean flavour and cultural events reflect this; there are thousands of beds available in numerous hotels, pensions, chalets, apartments and private homes.
The 70kms of pistes at Alpe di Siusi - Sciliar are divided into 30 per cent for beginners, 55 per cent for intermediates and 15 per cent for advanced skiers and snowboarders. Twenty-four ski lifts have an uplift capacity of 23,000 people per hour and, in addition to the pistes, there are 11 cross-country trails spread over 60kms of superb terrain.
Other winter activities and facilities include: sledding; tobogganing; mono-skiing; ice-skating (artificial); horse-drawn sleigh riding; and hiking and winter walking trails up to 2,000m. There is also indoor swimming, indoor tennis and a sauna. Some of the larger hotels have good night-time entertainment and there are also several bars and discos.
The December to April ski season at Alpe di Siusi - Sciliar has its best snow in February and cheapest weeks at the beginning and towards the end of the season.
The most convenient way to get to Alpe di Siusi - Sciliar ski resort is to fly to Bolzano from Milan or Venice and take the bus to the resort. Many fly to either Venice or Milan and take a train/bus combination.
