Altenmarkt / Zauchensee is a fun and traditional Austrian resort which offers reliable and interesting skiing for all abilities. The resort is renowned for its friendly and exciting atmosphere, which happily balances the typical village and action resort aspects of the area.

Centrally located in Salzburgerland, the villages of Altenmarkt and Zauchensee have a population of 3,400 and offer 4,500 beds, split up between hotels, inns, bed-and-breakfasts, farms, private houses, apartments, youth hostels and campsites.

The vast ski region has 800kms of prepared slopes and more than 260 lifts. Verticals over 1,000 metres and three- to five-kilometre runs, plus boundless acres of deep powder, satisfy downhill skiers and snowboarders. Snowboard alternatives include one terrain park, while other snow sport options consist of off-piste and backcountry skiing, sledding, and a 150-kilometre hiking trail system.

Plenty of excellent restaurants, three bars, three discos, five cafés and a folk museum combine to form an exhilarating après-ski scene, while daytime non-slope recreational opportunities are afforded by the indoor tennis courts, indoor pool, sauna, aerobic studio, concert hall, solarium, fitness centre, horseback riding stables, and squash courts.

Altenmarkt / Zauchensee’s ski season runs from December to May, with low season from December 1 to December 24, January 8 to 29, and March 29 to April 30. Peak season is from December 24 to January 8 and January 29 to March 29.

Altenmarkt is well served by all modes of transportation. Salzburg and Munich airports provide aerial gateways, while the A10 motorway affords convenient road access. Altenmarkt has its own railway station, and the ski resort can also be reached from Radstadt station.
