Argentiere ski resort is part of the famed Chamonix ski area in the Haute Savoie region of the French Alps. Argentiere's 30kms of slopes favour all skill levels, with an emphasis on advanced to expert skiers and snowboarders who are particularly attracted to the world renowned runs of the Grand Montets area.
The resort village is not as impressive as others in the region, but it is very well laid out, with first rate facilities and a lively atmosphere. Accommodation is in hotels, chalets and apartments, with a large number of beds on offer, and there are many restaurants, on and off the slopes, offering snacks and fine cuisine.
Eleven efficient ski lift systems transport thousands of skiers and snowboarders per hour over Argentiere's 30kms of beginner to expert slopes. There are 16 separate runs classified into 37 per cent for beginners; 38 per cent for intermediates; and 25 per cent suitable for the advanced and expert. There are also 43kms of cross-country skiing trails.
Argentiere ski resort offers plenty to do off the slopes, and après-ski facilities and activities include: a snow park, ice-skating rink, curling and hiking. In addition, there is a sports centre, gym, swimming pool and a bowling alley. Childcare facilities are also provided, while the nightlife is supplemented by 20 bars and three discos.
Argentiere's November to May ski season has its best skiing and snowboarding from February to mid-March, and cheapest weeks in mid-December, January, and from mid-March.
Geneva-Cointrin Airport, Switzerland, is the most convenient major airport to fly into and has a rail terminal with regular departures to and from Argentiere, as well as regular coach departures.
