Ski and Snowboarding Information for Avoriaz, France

Situated on the Swiss border between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc, Avoriaz ski resort is located in the popular ski region of the Portes du Soleil and has 150kms of local ski and snowboard slopes. Those with an intermediate skill level will enjoy Avoriaz; while there are some ideal learner runs and runs for the thrill-seeker also.

The resort village has a wonderful atmosphere, with its traffic-free streets and horse-drawn sleighs, and the traditional architecture is very pleasing. Avoriaz is a purpose-built village resort and has excellent facilities and accommodation options. There are quality three-star hotels, while the majority of lodging is offered in chalets and apartments.

Avoriaz ski resort's 49 runs are spread over 150kms of top rate skiing and snowboarding terrain and are divided into skill levels. Twenty-six per cent are beginner slopes; 58 per cent for intermediate to advanced; and 15 per cent for experts. The longest run is 11kms, and 47 ski lifts have a capacity for 47,000 people per hour. Avoriaz also has over 40kms of superb cross-country skiing trails.

Other winter activities and après-ski facilities include: paragliding; snowshoeing; dog-sledding; night sledding; snowmobiling; ice-skating, and a snowboard park. In addition, there is a sports centre; fitness suite; sauna; Turkish bath and squash courts. Restaurants abound, both on and off the slopes, and there is an excellent selection of entertainment venues to choose from.

The December to April ski season at Avoriaz has its best snow from early February to mid-March, with peak times over Christmas and the New Year's celebrations.

The most convenient option for getting to and from Avoriaz is to fly to Geneva-Cointrin Airport and hire a car. Alternatively, trains go from the airport terminal to Thonon Les Bains and Cluses, from where buses go to the resort.
