Bardonecchia ski resort is due west of Turin on the Italian/French border, in the southwestern Alps, and features 140kms of fantastic snowboarding and skiing on uncongested slopes. The famed Trois Vallees and Milky Way ski regions are also nearby, with hundreds more pistes to choose from.
Six villages serve Bardonecchia: Fregiusia, Les Arnaus, Melezet, Millaures, Rochemolles and Pian del Sole. Each offers modern facilities in a traditional environment and a range of lodging options in hotels, pensions and chalets/apartments.
More than 140kms of pistes are spread over four separate ski areas, namely: Campo Smith-Colomion, Les Arnauds, Mélezet-valle Stretta and Fregiusia-Jafferau. Twenty-five per cent of the runs are suited to beginners, 55 per cent for intermediates and 20 per cent for advanced and expert snowboarders and skiers. Twenty-seven ski lifts operate over all areas. Additionally, there are 32kms of cross-country trails.
Other winter activities and facilities at the Bardonecchia ski resort include: hiking, natural ice-skating, ice hockey, horseback riding, indoor tennis and a sauna. There are also bowling alleys and cinemas, and night-time entertainment is supplemented by several bars and discos.
The December to April ski season has its best snow conditions in February and lower rates in December and April weeks. The most practical way of getting to and from Bardonecchia is by flying to Turin-Casselle Airport and taking a train directly to the resort. Those looking for more convenience can hire a car at the airport.
