Ski and Snowboarding Information for Big Sky, USA

Big Sky ski resort is situated near Yellowstone National Park in the southwest of Montana and is known for its huge vertical, uncongested slopes and friendly atmosphere. There are plenty of steep pitches near the summit of Lone Peak for thrill-seeking snowboarders and skiers, as well as a terrain park and half-pipe.

The village of Big Sky Meadow is well equipped with services and facilities, and boasts a range of shops, an excellent ski school and conference facilities. There is a good choice of ski-in/ski-out lodgings in hotels, condos, guesthouses and studios, and childcare facilities are also available.

The 136kms and 150 trails at Big Sky are divided into 17 per cent for novices, 25 per cent for intermediates, 37 per cent for advanced sliders, and 21 per cent for experts; the longest run is 9.6kms. Daring snowboarders have steep pitches and gullies near the top, and there are some superb intermediate slopes at the bottom. Two terrain parks and 75kms of cross-country trails are also available.

There are also plenty of non-skiing activities and facilities at Big Sky, including: horseback riding, sleigh riding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and fly-fishing. There is also a health spa, swimming pools and a fitness centre; while the après-ski consists of over 20 restaurants and numerous bars.

The November to April ski season at Big Sky resort has its best natural snow in February and allows minors to ski for free, while teens and seniors receive discounts. Due to its remoteness, Big Sky ski resort is best reached by flying to Los Angeles or Denver and taking a short hop to nearby Bozeman-Gallatin Field Airport, from where shuttle buses are available for transfer to the resort.
