Ski and Snowboarding Information for Blacktail Mountain, USA

Blacktail Mountain is located in the northwest of Montana, near picturesque Flathead Lake, and is an inexpensive, family-orientated ski resort. The 24 well-groomed trails are mostly given over to intermediate skiers, while snowboarders have use of all pistes also. Slopes are uncongested and the atmosphere is friendly.

Blacktail has an excellent ski school for adults and children alike, and also boasts a well-equipped day lodge featuring a café and restaurant. There are also ski/sports shops and childcare facilities; while the accommodation is in the nearby towns of Kalispell, Lakeside, Big Fork and Somers.

Blacktail Mountain’s 24 trails are divided into 15 per cent for novices, 70 per cent for intermediates and 15 per cent for the more advanced snowboarders and skiers. Four lifts provide access to the slopes, the longest of which is 1.9kms. In addition to the pisted runs, there are a series of cross-country trails nearby.

Skidoo snowmobiling, with over 300kms of fantastic terrain to explore in the Flathead area, is also available near Blacktail; while Kalispell, with its range of shops, restaurants and bars, is the place to go for après-ski. The day lodge at Blacktail has a number of dining options.

The ski season at Blacktail Mountain runs from December to mid-April, with cheaper, low season deals before the Christmas holidays and from mid-March; minors and seniors ski for free. The most practical travel option for getting to Blacktail Mountain ski resort is to fly to Glacier Park International Airport and take a taxi to the town of Kalispell, from where an express shuttle service runs to the resort; car hire is also available.
