Located in a remote corner of the Haute-Maurienne Valley, near the Italian border, Bonneval-sur-Arc ski resort is a beautiful ski destination and is ideal for skiers and snowboarders who prefer less crowded slopes and a traditional and friendly resort village. The 25kms of slopes offer a variety of levels, with an emphasis on those at an intermediate level.
Although a quiet village, Bonneval-sur-Arc has a number of bars and restaurants, but the overall ambience of the place is one of laid-back relaxation in a traditional French mountain village. Most of the accommodation is offered in traditional stone chalets and a handful of hotels.
Bonneval-sur-Arc ski resort has a total of 25kms of pisted runs, and 19 slopes of varying levels, divided into 26 per cent beginner; 63 per cent intermediate/advanced; and 11 per cent suitable for experts. The ski field is served by 10 lifts, featuring chairlifts and draglifts. The longest run is 1.8kms. Cross-country is very popular and there are 80kms of trails.
In addition to skiing, or for the non-skier/snowboarder, Bonneval-sur-Arc offers paragliding; snowshoe hiking; ice-skating (natural); and husky-drawn sled rides. Après-ski is mainly hotel-based, but there are also a handful of bars and restaurants that provide night-time entertainment.
The December to May ski season at Bonneval-sur-Arc ski resort has a fixed skiing tariff, with the exception of the high season Christmas and New Year's holidays. Snow quality is excellent throughout the season, especially in February.
The most common way to get to Bonneval-sur-Arc and away is to fly to Lyon or Champéry and transfer by a bus/train combination to Modane, from where a bus goes to the resort. Driving is also very convenient.
