Ski and Snowboarding Information for Brandnertal, Austria

Brandnertal's attractiveness as a family skiing destination is explained by is its good value, slower pace and good learner pistes.

The charming old resort town is filled with quaint buildings reminiscent of its medieval days. There is plenty of both modern and traditional accommodation, ranging from luxurious hotels to quiet inns. There is a nursery available to care for babies and infants, while the ski schools are geared towards the young.

Terrain at Brand and nearby Burserberg contains a combined 50kms of prepared slopes, mostly for intermediate and novice skiers. Snowboarders and advanced skiers can go off-piste, and cannot complain about the vertical descent of 884m and longest run of more than 6.5kms. Snowboarders can also indulge themselves on the half-pipe.

There are 13 lifts, two of them relatively new six-seaters, which give the resort a lift capacity of 17,500 skiers per hour. Cross-country skiers have 40kms of tracks and winter walkers have even more paths to explore. There are all sorts of activities to hold the attention of kindergarten and grade school kids, like skiing, snowboarding, sledding or just playing in the snow. There are even five kilometres of prepared slopes just for rodeling.

Winter parties with bonfires, tea dances, discos and folklore evenings make up the après-ski scene, while sporting alternatives to the slopes include: indoor tennis; a riding hall providing horseback riding indoors and outdoors; ice-skating outdoors with lighting for night use; and bowling.

In keeping with its family orientation, the ski season is from Christmas to Easter, with the best skiing to be had during February and March. Any non-school holiday times or non-weekends are perfect for picking up bargains.

Zürich is the main transportation hub for the region, with most flights, rail and bus services routing through the city. A convenient autobahn runs from Zürich to Bludenz via Feldkirch, while Bludenz is also the nearest railway station to Brandnertal ski resort.
