Ski and Snowboarding Information for Brixem Im Thale, Austria

Located 800m above sea level, Brixen Im Thale / Wilder Kaiser ski resort is delightfully situated in the Kitzbuhel Alps, and is a great holiday resort for sports enthusiasts and those who prefer life at a more leisurely pace.

The resort boasts quality traditional accommodation and some of the best cuisine to be had in the Alps. The town has a delightful old church, and there are plenty of cafés and coffeehouses to relax in, between trips up the slopes. There are also several boutiques and clothing stores to keep you occupied in case the weather turns foul.

The Ski-Welt area, of which Brixen Im Thale is a part, is comprised of 122kms of red runs, 108kms of blue, and 20kms of black runs, for a total of 250kms. The top elevation of the slopes is 1,800m, with a vertical drop of 1,100m. The longest run in Brixen is 4.5kms, while the Ski-Welt has one run of eight kilometres.

A total of 94 lifts serve the Ski-Welt slopes, including one funicular train, one cable car, seven gondolas, 32 chairlifts and 52 surface lifts, creating a lift capacity of 125,000 skiers per hour (Brixen Im Thale’s capacity is 16,500 skiers per hour).

Snowboarding is catered for by the challenging boarders’ playground on Gampenkogel/Westendorf. Cross-country skiers are offered extensive (165kms) trails as far as Kitzbuhel, as well as a high-altitude trail with panoramic views. Hiking with snowshoes and sledding parties with cosy evenings in the mountain lodges can also be arranged. Night skiing, snowshoeing, sleigh riding, and tobogganing round out the snow sport activities.

The après-ski scene is created by lively bars and discos by night; while indoor tennis and swimming, a fitness centre, curling, ice-skating, paragliding, sauna, and shooting are available by day.

February and the beginning of March are the best times to be on the slopes above Brixen Im Thale, with the actual season running from mid-December to mid-March. Bargains can be had at the beginning of the season and in mid to late January.

Brixen Im Thale is easily reached by any mode of transportation, with most visitors arriving by air via Salzburg, Innsbruck or Munich, or by train via Munich and Worgl.
