Ski and Snowboarding Information for Chamrousse, France

Located to the southeast of Grenoble, family-friendly Chamrousse ski resort is France's oldest and provides skiers and snowboarders with 75kms of pisted runs, 45kms of which are suited to beginners and lower intermediates. Chamrousse usually receives plenty of snow and its proximity to Grenoble adds to its appeal.

Set within a wooded area, Chamrousse is a small mountain village with plenty of accommodation options and shopping facilities. There are 15,000 beds available in two- and three-star hotels, self catering apartments, mountain cottages, and a holiday village, as well as a youth hostel.

Chamrousse has 75kms of slopes which are classified 60 per cent for beginners; 20 per cent, intermediate; and 20 per cent for advanced and expert skiers and snowboarders. There are 26 chairlifts, draglifts and a tram, with a capacity for 26,500 people per hour. In addition, the cross-country skiing trails span 55kms.

Other winter activities and facilities include: eight kilometres of winter walking paths; ice-skating (artificial); mono-skiing, and paragliding. There is also an indoor swimming pool, a fitness centre and sauna, and a multi-sports hall featuring a host of activities. Après-ski and nightlife in Chamrousse are fairly lively, with 20 restaurants, 16 bars and two discos.

The December to May ski season at Chamrousse can alter, depending on the weather (due to the low altitude of the resort), and the resort usually has its best snow from early February to early or mid-March.

The most practical way to get to and from Chamrousse ski resort is to fly to Grenoble and take a bus transfer or hire a car.
