Devil’s Elbow is a cosy, family friendly ski and snowboard resort set near the enchanting Kawartha Lakes region, just north of the little village of Bethany. With an assortment of excellent slopes and a convenient location near to Toronto, Devil’s Elbow is a popular ski destination.
The resort of Devil’s Elbow is a day centre with plenty of parking, first-aid and a huge cafeteria. There is a choice of accommodation in Bethany village in the form of hotels, bed-and-breakfasts and cosy cottages, but most people stay in one of the surrounding towns of Peterborough, Lindsay or Oshawa.
There are 11 runs at the resort that are divided into 18 per cent for beginners, 73 per cent for intermediate to advanced snowboarders and skiers and nine per cent for experts. The longest run here is 760m and there are six chairlift systems, able to carry 11,400 people per hour. Additionally, there are 8.5kms of cross-country trails that wind through sheltered evergreen and hardwood forests.
Other non-skiing activities and facilities at Devil’s Elbow ski resort include a terrain park and hiking, and for sustenance, Falcon Foods has a huge and popular café. For shopping and après-ski entertainment, head for one of the nearby towns of Peterborough, Oshawa, Lindsay or Toronto.
The December to March ski season has its best snow from early February, while snow is guaranteed throughout the season with an array of snow cannons. By far the easiest and most practical travel option is to fly to Toronto’s Lester B Pearson International Airport and catch the ski bus to Devil’s Elbow. Travelling by hire car is more convenient due to the well connected highways from the airport.
