Ski and Snowboarding Information for Hafjell, Norway

One of the main venue sites for Alpine events in the 1994 Olympics, Hafjell ski resort offers 33kms of downhill slopes for all snowboarder and skier levels, as well as extensive cross-country trails. The scenery surrounding Hafjell is simply breathtaking.

Hafjell has limited facilities, but the nearby town of Lillehammer offers plenty for the visitor. The pedestrianised town centre is a busy hive of shops and wonderful old architecture, and accommodation options are numerous, with 4,000 beds available in Hafjell alone.

There are 33kms of pistes at Hafjell ski resort that are divided into nine beginner runs, nine intermediate runs, five runs suitable for the advanced and four expert slopes. Twelve lift systems provide access for up to 13,500 people per hour, and the longest downhill slope is seven kilometres. Additionally, Hafjell is blessed with cross-country trails, amounting to 300kms of groomed terrain.

Other winter activities and facilities at Hafjell ski resort include: mono-skiing; sleigh riding; tractor inner tubing; bobsledding; and a luge track. Hafjell has several excellent cafés and restaurants, as well as a vibrant nightlife with its bars and discos.

Hafjell’s ski season runs from mid-November to mid-April and the best snow conditions can be had in February.

A combination of flying to Oslo and transferring by train to Lillehammer and taking a bus from there is the most common travel option. Buses and trains frequently run in the opposite direction.
