Hemsedal ski resort is located between Oslo and Bergen, high up in the scenic Hallingdal Valley. One of Norway’s largest winter destinations, Hemsedal offers 34 perfectly groomed slopes over 36kms of varied terrain, as well as challenging off-piste and superb cross-country.
Hemsedal village is both picturesque and charming, with its old buildings and laid-back atmosphere, and facilities are wide ranging, from childcare to medical facilities and shops. Accommodation is available for a range of budgets, from luxury hotel suites, to more modest apartments and chalets.
The 34 well groomed pistes are suited to all levels of expertise, with 12 (green) runs for beginners, seven (blue) runs for intermediate, nine (red) runs for upper intermediates, and six (black) pistes for expert snowboarders and skiers. All pistes are serviced by the 17 chair and draglifts and the longest run is six kilometres. Hemsedal is also well known for its 130kms of cross-country trails.
In addition to the slopes, Hemsedal also has one of Europe’s highest rated snowboard parks, while other activities and facilities include: ice-skating, paragliding, tobogganing, ice-climbing, dog-sledding and horse-drawn sleigh rides. There is also paintball and indoor swimming as well as two activity centres offering games and motor activities. Cafés and restaurants are supplemented by a lively complement of bars and discos.
The November to May ski season at Hemsedal ski resort has its best snow conditions from February to mid-March. The most practical travel option is to fly to Oslo or Bergen and transfer by train and bus, via Gol. Car hire is also available from both airports.
