Ski and Snowboarding Information for Kanin, Slovenia

Kanin ski resort is located in the northwestern corner of Slovenia in the Triglav National Park, near the town of Bovec. Its heady altitude of 2,000m ensures excellent snow on the 14kms of snowboard and ski terrain, while views from the high slopes over the Soca River Valley, the Slovene Adriatic, and the Italian and Julian Alps are awesome.

The resort itself offers limited facilities, while nearby Bovec is the main-stay of accommodation and après-ski. Bovec is a picturesque town with some lovely old buildings and a range of lodging options in hotels, apartments and private residences. There are 2,000 beds in all, and plenty of shops and childcare facilities.

The 14kms of slopes at Kanin are mainly aimed at intermediate snowboarders and skiers who get 70 per cent of the terrain, while beginners get 20 per cent and advanced/experts are challenged on the other 10 per cent. These pistes represent half of the ski area and are accessed by six lift systems. The other half is off-piste terrain in open acreage. Additionally, 16kms of cross-country trails are also available.

Kanin ski resort also offers a range of non-ski activities and facilities, including: ice-skating, parasailing, hang-gliding, hiking through fantastic scenery, sledding and tobogganing. There is also indoor swimming, gym and fitness centres, and a sauna, as well as shopping and sightseeing. Cultural activities, billiards, bars and discos provide the après-ski entertainment.

The December to early May snowboard and ski season at Kanin has superb snow conditions throughout the season, particularly in February.

The most practical way to get to and from Kanin is to take a return flight to the capital city of Ljubljana and transfer by bus to the resort. Car hire offers a much faster transfer option and gives the opportunity of exploring the region further.
