Situated on two mountains, Katschberg is a popular ski resort for families with children and boasts a range of skiing options and après-ski activities. The town sits at an elevation of 1,641m and offers a variety of quality accommodations as well as a host of cafés, bars and discos. A free child day care centre is also available.
There are 60kms of groomed runs in Katschberg ski resort, catering to beginner and intermediate skiers, with the longest downhill section of eight kilometres. Sixteen lifts transport up to 24,000 skiers per hour. Off-piste options include six kilometres of cross-country trails and ten kilometres of snowboard trails with half-pipe, high jump, pro jump and slide features. In addition, there are two kilometres of sledding/tobogganing trails, as well as night skiing.
Other après-ski winter activities include: ice-skating, indoor swimming and tennis, curling, and sleigh rides. There are plenty of summer activities also on offer, including: hang-gliding, paragliding, cycling, horseback riding, hiking, Nordic walking, hunting, fishing, tennis and golf.
Katschberg's ski season runs from mid-December to after Easter, with the ideal conditions in late February and the cheapest rates before Christmas and at the end of the season.
There is an international airport in Salzburg, 100kms to the north, and hire car is the most convenient option for reaching Katschberg resort, via the A10 highway. Alternatively, shuttle buses run to Salzburg train station where regular trains run to Spittal; from there, you can complete your journey to Katschberg by bus.
