Ski and Snowboarding Information for Klosters, Switzerland

Klosters is an elegant ski resort, southeast of Zürich and not far from the Austrian border. Sharing the same terrain as nearby Davos, notably the brilliant snowfield of Parsenn, Klosters has 170kms of wonderful beginner to advanced slopes with skiing on both sides of the valley.

The traditional, attractive village of Klosters is split into Dorf and Platz. Dorf is nearer to the gentle beginner slopes and is a sleepy little village with abundant old world charm, while Platz is the business end with all the sports shopping and nightlife. More than 8,500 beds are available in luxury five-star hotel/resorts and more modest chalets and apartments.

Klosters ski resort alone has 170kms of superb skiing terrain, with 40 per cent given over to beginners; 30 per cent for intermediate skiers; and 30 per cent suited to advanced skiers. Klosters's network of lifts is interconnected with those of Davos, with 50 lifts able to move up to 55,000 skiers per hour. In addition to the pisted slopes, there are 35kms of cross-country trails.

Winter sports enthusiasts will find a broad range of activities and facilities apart from the skiing. These include: snowboarding, with two terrain parks and a halfpipe; 30kms of winter walking trails; ice-skating (natural); curling; horse-drawn sleigh rides; and snowshoeing. Other indoor facilities include: a fitness centre, sauna, squash and tennis. Most of Klosters' nightlife centres on Platz and the larger hotels.

The best snow can be had in February at Klosters ski resort, with special rate Ski Weeks available in December, January to early February, and late March to early April.

The most common way to get to Klosters is to fly to Zürich and transfer by train to the resort. There is a change in nearby Landquart for a regional Klosters-bound train. Hire a car at the airport for better convenience.
