Ski and Snowboarding Information for Kranjska Gora, Slovenia

Located near the Austrian and Italian borders, Kranjska Gora is probably the best known of the Slovenian ski resorts, due to the World Cup competitions in Alpine skiing and ski flights on the giant ski jump in Planica. The resort itself offers 30kms of varying slopes that are mainly geared to learners and lower intermediates.

The village of Kranjska Gora is charming and friendly and occupies a scenic spot in the far northwest of the beautiful Triglav National Park. A range of affordable accommodation in hotels and pensions is on offer, with 3,500 beds available in all, and a small selection of shops.

Kranjska Gora’s 30kms of groomed slopes are divided into 20 runs, 56 per cent of which are for beginners, 25 per cent for intermediates, and 19 per cent for advanced. The longest single run is four kilometres, while 23 ski lifts can transport over 17,500 people per hour. Additionally, there are 40kms of trails through forests and meadows for cross-country skiers.

Other non-skiing winter activities and facilities include: ice-skating, curling, hiking, horseback riding, indoor tennis, swimming and a sauna. There are a number of restaurants at the base of the mountain and in the village, and six bars and nightclubs along with two casinos provide the après-ski.

The mid-December to late March ski season at Kranjska Gora ski resort generally has its best snow in February and cheaper weeks pre-Christmas holidays.

Most people fly to Ljubljana Airport and take the minibus or hire a car to get to and from Kranjska Gora ski resort. Trains also go part of the way (from Ljubljana) to Jesenice, from where taxis go to the resort.
