Situated in the Troll Park area of Norway, north of Oslo, Kvitfjell ski resort is known for its variety of pistes and superb terrain/snowboard park for boarders. Eighteen slopes provide great snowboarding and skiing for all abilities, and the cross-country trails are particularly attractive.
The village itself has excellent amenities and facilities, as well as diverse lodging options, with beds mainly in hotels, apartments and private residences. Although it is a modern resort village, Kvitfjell has a wonderful atmosphere and very friendly locals. The childcare centre is very good.
Kvitfjell’s 18 pistes are mainly aimed at those with a higher skill level, with three slopes geared towards beginners, seven for intermediates, five for advanced skiers, and three for experts. The longest piste at Kvitfjell is 3.5kms and all are fed by seven lift systems. Additionally, there are 400kms of well groomed cross-country trails through scenic wooded areas and open terrain.
Other winter activities and facilities at Kvitfjell ski resort include: a terrain and snowboard park; telemarking; sleigh rides; ice-fishing; ice-climbing; and snow rafting. Plenty of cafés and restaurants provide sustenance and the après-ski is enlivened by a good complement of bars and discos.
Kvitfjell’s ski season runs from mid-November to mid-April, with good snow conditions throughout due to the array of snow cannons; while best snow conditions can be had in February. Most travellers fly to Oslo-Gardermoen Airport and take a shuttle bus to the city, from where trains run to Kvitfjell. Trains also run frequently in the other direction.
