La Clusaz is fairly remote in the Aravis region of the northern Alps, but offers superb skiing and snowboarding in beautiful scenery. There are 132kms of both pisted and off-piste runs with varying difficulties for all abilities, as well as excellent cross-country trails. Good recreation facilities and nightlife are also appealing.
The village is charming with its picturesque buildings, including a church, and there is an abundance of lodging options, from a youth hostel to traditional wooden chalets and four-star hotels. There are 22,000 beds available in total and restaurants, bars and discos offer nightly entertainment.
La Clusaz ski resort offers everything from hair-raising slopes to easy green and blue runs over 132kms of brilliant skiing and snowboarding terrain. There are 83 runs divided into 33 per cent for beginners; 37 per cent, intermediate; 25 per cent, advanced; and five per cent for experts. Fifty-five lifts can move over 53,000 people per hour, and the longest run is four kilometres. Additionally, there are 70kms of top rated cross-country skiing trails.
Other winter activities and facilities include: ice-skating; ice-karting; snowmobiling; paragliding; snowshoeing and husky dog-sledding. In addition, there are four fitness centres. Après-ski and nightly entertainments are supplemented by two discos, 10 bars and a scattering of restaurants serving French and international fare.
The December to April ski season at La Clusaz has its best snow in February and cheapest weeks before the Christmas holidays and towards the end of the season.
There are numerous ways to get here, but the most convenient and practical is to fly to Geneva and take the Skibus, via Le Grand Bornand. Alternatively, take a train/bus combination, via Annecy, or hire a car from the airport.
