Le Grand Bornand ski resort is located south of Geneva in the Haute Savoie ski region and offers skiing and snowboarding mainly suited to beginners and intermediates. Le Grand Bornand is really two resorts in one and has 65kms of pistes with a small number of difficult runs.
The town is traditionally a farming village, retaining much of its rustic charm despite modern influences such as banks, fashionable boutiques and ski sports stores. Both villages offer 19,000 beds in hotels, self catering apartments and 500 traditional chalets, and there are numerous restaurants.
The 48 runs at Le Grand Bornand are divided into 31 per cent beginner runs; 38 per cent, intermediate; 26 per cent, advanced; and five per cent for experts. The longest run is four kilometres. Forty ski lifts have a capacity for 38,300 skiers and snowboarders per hour. Additionally, there are 58kms of easy to difficult cross-country skiing trails.
Other winter activities and facilities include: ice-skating (natural); sleigh riding; mono-ski; paragliding; hiking and hang-gliding. In addition, there is a fitness suite, Jacuzzi and sauna. There is also a museum and library, and evening entertainment is supplied by 35 bars and two discos.
The December to April ski season at Le Grand Bornand ski resort has its best snow from February to mid-March, and cheaper weeks are available in January and April.
The most practical option for getting to Le Grand Bornand ski resort is to fly to Geneva and take a bus to the resort, or transfer by train to Annecy and take a bus or taxi from there.
