Ski and Snowboarding Information for Les Angles, French Pyrenees

Les Angles ski resort, located in southwest Languedoc-Roussillon province, near the Spanish border, has been a top ski destination for both the French and Spanish for many years. Les Angles was the first French ski resort to install snow cannons and its 40kms of slopes cater to all levels of skiing.

Lying at 1,600m above sea level, Les Angles is an authentic ski resort village with a peaceful atmosphere and a focus towards children and families. Lakes, streams, forests and wild animals of the Pyrenees allow for an unspoilt vacation setting. There is an abundance of cafés, restaurants and shops and the choice of accommodation is good.

The 26 ski lifts of Les Angles ski resort can transport up to 19,000 skiers per hour to its 32 pisted runs. There are 40kms of slopes in all, with a ratio of 41 per cent for beginners; 53 per cent for intermediate skiers; and six per cent, advanced. Extensive cross-country skiing, with 156kms of trails on six circuits, supplements the pistes.

Other winter activities and facilities include: a permanent snowpark with half-pipe and two quarter-pipes; excellent circuits for snowshoeing and hiking; ice-skating; sleigh rides; two snow gardens for children; and crèche facilities (from age three months to three years). There is also a sports complex with an indoor, heated swimming pool; ice-skating/ice hockey rink; and bowling. For extremists, Les Angles offers ice-surfing and ice-diving. There are also 11 bars and a disco in the village.

The December through April ski season has its best snow from February to mid-March, with cheaper weeks at the beginning and end of the season, and in mid-January.

The most practical way to get to Les Angles is to fly to Perpignan and take a shuttle or bus/train/shuttle connection to the resort. Buses and shuttles from the airport are frequent and trains go throughout the day. The quickest alternative is to hire a car at the airport.
