Les Deus Alpes is one of the oldest ski resorts in France and is situated in the Veneon Valley, near Grenoble. There are 200kms of runs, from beginner to expert, and an array of attractive intermediate skiing and snowboarding slopes. In addition, there is off-piste and summer glacier skiing.
Les Deux Alpes is a lively resort town with some interesting buildings and is surrounded by beautiful mountains. There are 35,000 beds in hotels and chalets, ranging from the luxurious to the more modest, and over 250 shops and restaurants.
Two hundred kilometres of skiable terrain is divided into 17 per cent for beginners, a huge 72 per cent for intermediates and 11 per cent for advanced and expert skiers and snowboarders. There are 63 ski lifts with a capacity for 61,000 people per hour. Cross-country skiing is also featured at Les Deux Alpes.
Other winter activities and facilities for après-ski and non-skiers include: a snow park for boarders, snowshoeing, tobogganing, mono-skiing, ice-climbing, ice-skating and sleigh riding. For evening entertainment, there are piano concerts at the Maison de la Montagne and several bars and discos.
The late November to early May ski season at Les Deux Alpes has its best snow conditions from February to early/mid-March, and there is summer skiing on the glacier.
The majority of travellers fly to Lyon-Satolas Airport and transfer to Les Deux Alpes by Satobus, which runs in both directions and takes 2 hours, 30 minutes. Alternatively, trains go from Lyon to Grenoble, from where the VDF coach goes to the resort.
