Les Diablerets is a quiet and family-friendly ski resort situated east of Lake Geneva, in the canton of Vaud. Over 45kms of the 65kms of skiable terrain is suited to intermediate skiers, with the rest given over to beginners. There are also some advanced/expert off-piste trails from the top of the Glacier 3000 (2,979m), which also has summer skiing.
The village of Les Diablerets, nestled at the foot of the mountain, has excellent sporting facilities, and off the snow a relaxed attitude pervades the resort. There are 1,000 beds in 13 hotels and 4,000 other beds in chalets and apartments. There are many sports shops and the choice of quality eateries is staggering.
There are 65kms of pistes at Les Diablerets, consisting of 26 runs, with 31 per cent suitable to beginners; and a whopping 69 percent for intermediate skiers. In addition, there are 30kms of cross-country and natural ice-skating trails.
There are a wide range of activities and facilities away from the slopes, including: snowboarding, with a terrain park and three half-pipes; 20kms of footpaths; 15kms of snowshoeing paths; curling; ice-canyoning; and a toboggan run. A fun park is also available. The nightlife is fairly subdued, with folklore evenings and a few bars offering late night dancing.
The December to April ski season (summer skiing on the glacier) has the best snow in February, and special rates are offered pre-Christmas, in mid-January and from mid-March. Easter holiday time is the high season.
